The Office of the Insurance Commission, or OIC, has launched its 2026 cyber threat readiness and response testing programme for the insurance business. Dr. Chayanin Kerdpholngam, Deputy Secretary-General for Strategy and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony on behalf of Chuchat Pramulphon, Secretary-General of the OIC. The activity is being held twice. The first session took place on 22 September 2026 with 34 companies taking part, comprising 14 life insurance companies and 20 non-life insurance companies. The second session is scheduled for 30 September 2026 with another 33 companies participating, comprising 8 life insurance companies and 25 non-life insurance companies, for a total of 67 companies. This exercise marks the third such drill, and the OIC has developed a more comprehensive and realistic format together with KPMG Phoomchai Business Advisory Limited, which designed simulation scenarios going deeper into technical detail. Representatives of the OIC from relevant departments were also invited to join the drill to prepare for coordination, situation management and crisis communication. Dr. Chayanin said cyber risk remains a top risk for all sectors, including the insurance business, especially given AI technology, which both boosts competitiveness and may increase the complexity of future threats. This is reflected in overseas incidents where an AI agent developed to test cybersecurity was reported to have escaped its simulated environment and reached the systems of a real company.
