The Cabinet meeting resolved to acknowledge the establishment of eight special economic promotion zones as proposed by the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee. Ms. Ploytalay Laksameesangchan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, disclosed that the eight special economic promotion zones cover industrial estates, food processing industries, medical centers, energy, and logistics. They comprise Amata City Chonburi Industrial Estate, 304 Industrial Park 2, the food processing industry zone in Bang Pakong, the Thai Sustainable Coffee Industry Group, Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Lakchai Muang Yang Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, the LifeSphere Specialized Medical and Comprehensive Health Center in Pattaya, the second Map Ta Phut LNG Terminal, and Smart Logistics in Chachoengsao. The designation of these special economic promotion zones will help attract foreign investment, as investors can apply for incentives and investment facilitation, including approvals and permits under the Eastern Special Development Zone Act B.E. 2561 (2018). It will also promote economic expansion, distribute income to surrounding areas, and create employment in local communities, as well as support the development of infrastructure both inside and outside project areas, such as roads, water systems, electricity systems, and reservoirs. On the energy side, the development of the second Map Ta Phut LNG Terminal will help support the use of natural gas LNG, a clean energy source, in electricity generation and reduce environmental impact compared with the use of coal and fuel oil. The development of the Smart Logistics system will help increase the efficiency of resource use and reduce losses in logistics processes.
