Cadence Design Systems IncCadence launched a new RTL Generation Agent for its ChipStack AI platform, extending AI automation into specification-to-RTL design.
Cadence Design Systems introduced a new RTL Generation Agent for its Cadence ChipStack AI Super Agent, extending AI automation into the specification-to-RTL stage of digital chip design. Cadence said the agent achieved an average 24% reduction in area and 18% decrease in power compared with pure foundation-model code generation, while producing 100% functionally accurate RTL in its early evaluations. The new agent broadens the ChipStack platform, which launched in February 2026 as an agentic platform for front-end design and verification covering specification understanding, RTL development, testbench creation, verification planning, regression management, debugging and coverage closure. Cadence reported 18% year-over-year growth in core EDA revenue in the second quarter, alongside strong early traction for its AI Super Agents portfolio, and expects the expanded ChipStack and InnoStack AI Super Agent capabilities to reach select early-access customers in the fourth quarter. Cadence faces competition from Synopsys, whose fiscal third-quarter EDA revenue rose 8.5% year over year and whose work with NVIDIA on an autonomous verification agent delivered up to 50x faster time-to-validated RTL and 20% additional coverage improvement.
