Calix announced that Astound has successfully completed a trial of the Calix 50G-PON access solution, validating a seamless path to higher-capacity services on the Calix One platform. The trial enabled 50 gigabits per second of downstream speeds and flexible upstream speeds, demonstrating how Astound can build on its existing network and operational investments to deliver high-capacity, multi-gig converged services for both commercial and residential customers on a single, unified network. Astound validated that 50G-PON operates alongside its existing XGS-PON-enabled infrastructure using the same AXOS-powered operational model, workflows, and back-office integrations, allowing deployment without overhauling its network. Lamar Horton, SVP of engineering at Astound, said the trial gives the company confidence it can drive new revenue streams without incremental network or operational complexity, while Shane Eleniak, chief product officer at Calix, said the trial shows providers can evolve to 50G-PON without disrupting how they operate today. Calix, an AI platform company, said more than 1,200 customers use the Calix One platform, which has evolved over 15 years at an investment of more than $2 billion.
