Calix, Inc. CALX announced the successful completion of a trial of its 50G-PON access solution with Astound, demonstrating a scalable path for broadband providers to expand network capacity without major network overhauls. The trial showed the technology supports downstream speeds of up to 50 gigabits per second, along with flexible upstream capabilities, and lets Astound pursue growth across residential, business, wholesale and multi-tenant markets. The solution can operate alongside existing XGS-PON infrastructure while using the same AXOS-powered operational model, workflows and back-office integrations, allowing providers to add higher-capacity services while preserving existing network and operational investments. Calix said the technology can help operators scale their networks as demand grows for enterprise connectivity, dedicated access, wholesale transport, mobile x-haul and high-density multi-tenant environments.
