Elanco Animal HealthExpansion increases production capacity to meet strong demand for Befrena and Trutect.

Elanco Animal Health Incorporated announced the on-time completion of a 25,000-square-foot manufacturing expansion at its Elwood, Kansas site, boosting its monoclonal antibody production capacity. The $120 million investment, part of a total $150 million commitment through 2028, increases the site's production capacity by more than four times and includes a new pilot plant and quality control laboratory. The expansion supports the phased launch of Befrena, a new anti-IL-31 mAb injection for canine allergic dermatitis, and Trutect, the first approved therapeutic for canine parvovirus. CEO Jeff Simmons noted that customer demand for Befrena is two times above expectations, and the expanded capacity is key to meeting demand as the company anticipates reaching unconstrained levels in early 2027. The project was led by design-build firm Burns & McDonnell.
