Summary · why it matters

Shares of Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, and Okta rallied sharply Monday, extending strong year-to-date gains, after a UBS forecast projected 13% growth in the global cybersecurity market this year to $240 billion. Palo Alto Networks surged 9% to $331.91, CrowdStrike rose 7% to $747.84, and Okta gained 5% to $130.23, with year-to-date advances of 79%, 59%, and 51% respectively, far outpacing the NASDAQ 100's 16% gain. The UBS note, which did not assign new ratings or price targets, estimated the broader security and safety market would reach $974 billion in 2026 and $1.19 trillion by 2029, with cybersecurity as the largest growth driver. The rally also reflects a broad risk-on rotation into high-beta software names, though valuations remain stretched, with Palo Alto Networks trading at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 283.51 times and CrowdStrike at a forward multiple of 143 times. CrowdStrike's 4-for-1 stock split is set to take effect July 2, a potential catalyst for retail demand and short-term volatility.

Cequence Finds Meta's Muse AI Agent Hit Over Half of Studied Customers in Two Weeks

Cequence Security said it detected traffic matching Meta's Muse personal AI agent at more than half of the customers it studied within two weeks of the agent's September 8 launch, and most of those businesses would not have known because Muse presents itself as an ordinary Chrome browser rather than identifying as an AI agent. Cequence analyzed traffic across customers in financial services, retail, travel, software and other sectors from September 1 to September 24, 2026, and found that at the median customer, Muse traffic grew nearly sixfold within about two weeks of first appearing. At financial institutions, Muse logged in to customer accounts and completed multi-factor authentication on users' behalf with confirmed successful sign-ins, while a small share of its sessions ended in a completed purchase. In late September, a travel and hospitality customer's security team began blocking nearly one in five Muse requests, targeting only the ones that looked abnormal, while Muse itself remained allowed. Cequence launched Agent Trust, a new capability in Cequence Application and API Protection available today, which verifies agents that present an identity and catches the ones that don't, pairing identity verification with behavioral detection. Agent Trust is immediately available to Cequence customers as part of Application and API Protection.

Oppenheimer Starts SailPoint at Outperform With $30 Price Target

Oppenheimer initiated coverage of cybersecurity firm SailPoint with an Outperform rating and a $30 price target, sending shares up 1.3% in premarket trading on Wednesday. Analyst Ittai Kidron wrote that SailPoint offers differentiated technology well-positioned for a critical role in AI agent identity security, and that AI security adoption offers meaningful upside versus management's FY29 ARR target that is mismodeled by consensus. Kidron noted that strong management execution could drive share appreciation despite the roughly 85% ownership overhang from private equity firm Thoma Bravo, and said a strategic buyer may emerge if the valuation discount versus peers persists. He added that SailPoint's shift to software-as-a-service from on-premises represents roughly $1B in incremental annual recurring revenue, which could pressure near-term reported revenue and free cash flow but strengthens recurring revenue growth and long-term margins. Over a 12-18-month horizon, Kidron said he anticipates AI security proof points to emerge along with positive revenue and ARR revisions and multiple expansion toward the 11x multiple embedded in his price target.

Zscaler Partners With IBM and Red Hat on Private App Security

Zscaler announced a new partnership with IBM and Red Hat to help secure private applications during active vulnerability windows. The collaboration combines Zscaler's Autonomous Application Shield with IBM and Red Hat remediation tools to deliver application-specific protections, while Lightwell supplies validated open source fixes. The joint solution targets real-time safeguards against exploitation attempts, including those using AI-powered and opportunistic attack methods. Zscaler, a US software provider with a market cap of $32.9b, runs a cloud-based security platform that inspects traffic and enforces access rules for enterprises worldwide. The company said the key markers ahead are early access adoption of Autonomous Application Shield with Lightwell by large enterprises and any contribution to annual recurring revenue tied to application shielding and AI-driven response.

Yubico and Okta Survey Finds 43% of Security Pros Still Use Passwords at Work

A new survey from Yubico and Okta found that 43% of cybersecurity and IT professionals still rely on passwords at work even though most know passkeys are more secure. The annual 2026 Global State of Authentication report, conducted by Talker Research, surveyed nearly 2,000 cybersecurity and IT professionals across nine countries, and found that 52% inherited passwords on their first day, establishing legacy onboarding defaults that dictate long-term security habits. The survey also found that 44% suffered an AI-driven attack in the last 12 months, with Singapore experiencing the highest rate globally at 58%, compared with Japan at 30% and Germany at 38%, while 39% of security professionals failed to distinguish AI-generated text from human writing. India at 68%, Australia at 60%, and the U.S. at 56% showed the highest proportion of workers very familiar with passkeys, yet 50% of U.S. security pros still use passwords at work, leading all surveyed markets in legacy password dependency. Yubico and Okta said they are partnering to streamline how enterprise identity systems issue, manage, and enforce hardware-backed credentials, embedding phishing resistance into modern access management platforms to help IT teams eliminate password dependencies without adding operational friction.
