AXT IncAXT is the underlying stock of the new 2x inverse ETF; the article only reports its huge YTD gain and the launch of a short product, no company-specific development.

Tradr ETFs has launched the Tradr 2X Short AXTI Daily ETF (CBOE:AXTQ), a single-stock inverse leveraged fund designed to deliver -200% of the daily performance of AXT, Inc. (NASDAQ:AXTI), which is up 344.34% year to date and 2,236.01% over the past year. The fund, which began trading on Tuesday, August 18, uses swaps and derivatives to achieve its objective, meaning if AXTI falls 1% on a given day, AXTQ is designed to rise about 2%, and vice versa. However, the daily reset means that over longer holding periods, returns will likely diverge from -2x the cumulative move due to volatility decay, and a single adverse move of more than 50% in AXTI could wipe out the position entirely. Tradr, the ETF brand of AXS Investments, positions AXTQ as a short-term trading tool for sophisticated investors, and it currently faces no direct competitor offering a leveraged inverse product on AXTI.
