Walmart Inc.Walmart opened a new Neighborhood Market in Mesquite, Texas and plans ~20 new U.S. store openings in 2026-27 as part of a $2.5B+ Texas investment and 150-location expansion commitment.

Walmart opened its latest Neighborhood Market store last week in Mesquite, Texas, continuing the expansion of its smaller, grocery-focused store chain. Over the past five years, the retail giant has invested more than $2.5B in Texas stores and plans to remodel 72 locations across the state in 2026. Walmart Neighborhood Market began with three stores in Arkansas in 1998, including one in the company's home city of Bentonville, and the chain now stands at a reported tally of 674 stores in the U.S. This year the company is testing remodels at several Neighborhood Markets, with expanded deli and hot-bar offerings, improved lighting, pharmacy delivery, and better space for fulfilling online grocery orders. Looking ahead, Walmart expects approximately 20 new store openings across its U.S. formats in 2026 and early 2027, part of a broader commitment made in 2024 to open or convert more than 150 locations over five years.
