TSMC's 67.7% Margin Spurs Solvay to Double Taiwan Peroxide Capacity

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's dominant contract chipmaker, is getting a supply-chain boost as Solvay plans to more than double Taiwan's annual production capacity for ultra-pure hydrogen peroxide from 35,000 tonnes to over 70,000 tonnes by year-end, Reuters reported Thursday. The electronic-grade chemical is used to clean wafers, where microscopic contaminants can destroy complex circuitry. Solvay is scaling its Tainan joint venture and targeting a threefold expansion of its global electronic-grade peroxide business within five to seven years. TSMC's second-quarter results delivered $40.2 billion in revenue, a 67.7% gross margin, and a 60.3% operating margin, and suppliers rarely double capacity without seeing serious demand ahead. However, TSMC's share price of $411.3263 sits 27.52% above its GF Value of $322.57, indicating investors already expect near-flawless execution.

Solvay confirms full-year guidance despite second-quarter earnings decline

Solvay reported second-quarter 2026 underlying net sales of €1,031 million, down 7.4% organically from a year earlier, and confirmed its full-year guidance. Underlying EBITDA fell 19.5% organically to €187 million, with the margin narrowing to 18.1%, as the company cited continued weakness in soda ash pricing and a negative impact from the Middle East conflict that temporarily shut its Peroxides plant in the region. Structural cost savings delivered another €26 million in the quarter, and underlying net profit from continuing operations was €64 million. Free cash flow for the first half was €15 million, with underlying net debt at €1.8 billion and a leverage ratio of 2.3 times. Solvay expects a stronger second half, anticipating the restart of its Saudi Arabia Peroxides plant in the third quarter, and reaffirmed its 2026 outlook for underlying EBITDA between €770 million and €850 million and free cash flow of at least €200 million.
