Solvonis CEO says £1.3m fundraising fuels CNS drug pipeline

Solvonis Therapeutics CEO Anthony Tennyson said the company's £1.3 million fundraising will support its CNS pipeline spanning SVN-001, SVN-002 and SVN-015. The funding will let Solvonis assess adding international sites to the Phase 3 programme for SVN-001, its severe alcohol use disorder treatment being trialled within the UK's NHS. On SVN-002, developed for moderate to severe alcohol use disorder in the US, the company is repurposing esketamine as an oral thin film via the FDA's 505(b)(2) pathway, building a scientific bridge to Johnson & Johnson's Spravato. The interview also covered SVN-015, Solvonis' proprietary compound targeting methamphetamine and cocaine addiction, with the US National Institute on Drug Abuse now funding further preclinical work following positive initial screening data.

Solvonis reports positive bridging data for SVN-002 in alcohol use disorder

Solvonis Therapeutics has reported positive bridging pharmacokinetic data for its SVN-002 programme, a key step toward a Phase 2b trial for moderate to severe alcohol use disorder in the US. CEO Anthony Tennyson said preclinical studies showed that sublingual and buccal delivery of esketamine achieved comparable exposure levels to intranasal administration, establishing the scientific bridge required by the FDA. The company is repurposing Johnson & Johnson's approved esketamine treatment Spravato via the FDA's 505(b)(2) pathway, targeting a market of around 15 million American adults with alcohol use disorder. Tennyson noted the data could support a narrower toxicology package and a faster, capital-efficient development timeline, with next steps including FDA discussions ahead of an IND application.
