Trump to Host Lavish Dinner for Top 185 TRUMP Coin Holders on Nov. 22

The team behind US President Donald Trump's meme coin has announced he will appear at a third event for the largest holders of the token. The website GetTrumpMemes, which is behind the promotion of the meme coin named Official Trump, or TRUMP, said it will hold a dinner on November 22 for the top 185 holders, with rankings calculated between September 30 and November 12. Trump will appear at his golf club in Washington, D.C., alongside three unnamed guests. It marks the third time Trump has gathered fans of his meme coin at a similar event, following a dinner in May 2025 for 220 TRUMP holders in Washington, D.C., and a lunch in April 2026 for 297 guests at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The announcement comes just weeks after reports that investors in his crypto ventures lost a combined 4.7 billion dollars. In August, Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization, estimated that investors in the Trump family's crypto ventures were down 4.7 billion dollars since 2022, with 3.2 billion dollars of the losses coming from the meme coin. The price of TRUMP jumped about 9% to 2.23 dollars from 2.05 dollars immediately after the event was announced on Wednesday, and at the time of publication the token was trading at 2.06 dollars. The meme coin dinner continues to draw ethical concerns, with Senator Chris Coons calling it corruption, while Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, told Cointelegraph that at best the dinner is an unethical and shameless exploitation of the presidency, and at worst it is pay-to-play access to the president. The announcement also comes weeks after members of the US Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity bill, or CLARITY Act, with every participating Democrat voting against it. Senator Elissa Slotkin said on September 15 that she could not comfortably vote for any law that endorses such behavior by public officials. The Senate has limited time to address the CLARITY bill before the next congressional session begins in 2027.

California Enacts AB 2409 Banning Meme Coin Issuance by Public Officials

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2409 into law on September 27, prohibiting state and local public officials and certain public employees from issuing meme coins. AB 2409 works on two fronts: it bans issuance by officials themselves and bars crypto asset businesses from listing the targeted meme coins. It is not a blanket ban on issuance by all politicians, including federal officeholders. Those directly barred from issuing are California state and local public officials and certain employees with decision-making authority over bids and contracts. For federal officials, the law regulates the crypto businesses instead, prohibiting operators from listing meme coins for California residents if they are offered by, or issued with the involvement of, public officials and are newly issued on or after January 1, 2027. The official Trump meme coin TRUMP, issued in 2025, is not immediately delisted within the state under the new law. Violations can prompt the state attorney general and others to seek injunctions and disgorgement of profits, and SB 1208, which Newsom signed the same day, adds crypto assets to the state's money laundering offenses. The governor's office headlined its announcement with "THE OPPOSITE OF TRUMP!" and criticized TRUMP as an example of using public office for personal gain. At the federal level, the final draft of the CLARITY Act released by Senate Republicans on September 14 included ethics provisions restricting digital asset issuance by public officials, but the Senate voted 49 to 50 on September 15 to reject a cloture motion on the motion to proceed, falling short of the 60 votes needed, and the bill has not been enacted.

Trump's second son denies report of new coin issuance as 'complete nonsense'

Eric Trump, the second son of U.S. President Donald Trump, denied on August 23 reports that President Trump would issue a new meme coin. The rumor began with a post on X by Whale Scan, an account that shares crypto-related information. Eric Trump responded, 'What kind of joke is this? It's complete nonsense,' and said, 'No one is trying to issue any coin.' Trump released the official meme coin TRUMP in January 2025, followed by Melania Trump's MELANIA, and the family is also involved in the crypto venture World Liberty Financial. The Clarity Act under consideration in the Senate would prohibit public officials such as the president and their spouses from issuing or endorsing crypto assets in exchange for compensation, but Trump's children are excluded, drawing criticism from Democrats that the regulation is insufficient.
TRUMP · Regulation · Negative Eric Trump denies new coin issuance, and Senate bill targets president's coin issuance; regulatory scrutiny and denial may dampen sentiment.
MELANIA · Regulation · Negative Senate bill would prohibit Melania from issuing/endorsing crypto assets, but she is excluded, drawing criticism; news of no new coin issuance may reduce hype.

US Senators Ask SEC to Probe Trump Meme Coin, Citing $3.81 Billion in Losses Across Nearly One Million Wallets

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal have asked the US Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate President Trump's meme coin, $TRUMP. The two lawmakers presented estimates showing that from the token's launch in January 2025 through the end of June 2026, roughly 989,000 wallets suffered combined losses of $3.81 billion, and they asserted that Trump earned $636 million in connection with the coin. In their letter, they pointed to signs that the project may have exhibited characteristics of a prolonged soft rug pull, and urged the SEC to investigate from the standpoint of market integrity and investor protection. The request comes as congressional deliberations on the CLARITY Act, which could redefine the federal oversight framework for digital assets, enter a critical phase.
