Ford EV Sales Fall About 80% in Q3 as Trucks and Ford Pro Carry the Load

Ford's electric vehicle sales fell about 80% year over year in the third quarter of 2026, with EV sales down 67.5% through September, according to CNBC. The steep drop partly reflects an unusually strong comparison: last year's third quarter saw record Ford EV sales as buyers rushed to purchase before U.S. President Donald Trump ended federal incentives of up to $7,500. Total third-quarter sales were 509,764 vehicles, down 6.6%, a decline Ford attributes largely to planned portfolio changes such as retiring the Escape and Corsair; adjusting for that, Ford estimates its retail share rose about 0.4 percentage points to 12.1%. The F-Series posted the highest retail share and retail revenues among full-line truck brands, with the lowest incentive spending in its segment, and is on track to be America's best-selling truck for the 50th straight year, while Super Duty delivered its best quarterly production in 19 years. A supplier issue halted F-150 production from Sept. 24 to 30, but Ford says the impact is containable within its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance of $10-$11 billion. Ford Pro's active paid software subscriptions topped 1.7 million through September, up more than 40% from a year ago, and the Model e unit lost $919 million in the second quarter, its third straight quarter of year-over-year improvement, though management expects a full-year 2026 loss of about $4 billion from that unit.

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 471,262 units, with deliveries up 1.3% sequentially but down 2.1% year over year. Through the first nine months of 2026, Tesla delivered 1,324,681 vehicles and needs just more than 311,448 units in the fourth quarter to break its streak of annual declines. The competitive picture remains concerning, as BYD sold 762,478 passenger battery-electric vehicles in the quarter, up roughly 31% year over year, while NIO delivered 109,178 vehicles, up 25.4% year over year. In the last reported quarter, automotive gross margin excluding regulatory credits slipped to 16.3%, and energy storage margins fell to 20.4% from 39.5%, while Tesla expects capital spending above $25 billion in 2026. Tesla's robotaxi network had covered roughly 380,000 driverless miles, compared with Waymo's more than 220 million rider-only miles, and the company recently moved its Roadster demonstration from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15. Tesla's Oct. 21 earnings report is much-awaited, and TSLA stock currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

IHL eyes more car leather seat orders after floods, hints at positive signals for Q4 2026

Wasin Damrongsakulwong, director and general manager of Interhides Public Company Limited, or IHL, told the Stock Vision news team that the company may benefit from additional orders for car leather seats after the flood situation eases, since many vehicles were damaged, creating extra demand for repairs or replacement of car leather seats. In past flood events, the company also received additional orders, but it now needs to wait for a clearer assessment of damage and market demand after the water recedes. As for the current flooding, IHL's factories have not been directly affected and internal operations remain normal. The short-term impact comes from some domestic customers asking to delay deliveries by about two to three days, and the company expects deliveries to return to normal within this week. There are no signs of overseas customers requesting delivery delays, and new orders continue to come in as usual. For the fourth quarter of 2026, the company sees the overall picture still trending well, especially the shoe leather business, which has continued to receive orders. The car leather seat business still requires monitoring of order trends after the floods ease and deliveries return to normal. The collagen factory continues to operate as planned, and revenue recognition is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. However, the company is still monitoring the government approval process for its license, which may take longer because the government is focusing on flood relief and there are public holidays.
IHL.BK · Demand · Positive Flood damage to vehicles is expected to generate additional orders for car leather seat repairs/replacements, as happened in past floods.
IHL.BK · Supply · Positive IHL's factories were not directly affected by the floods and internal operations remain normal, with only brief 2-3 day delivery delays from some domestic customers.

Musk Says Tesla Halved Optimus Memory to Scale Production as Micron Sees 200GB Robots

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Thursday that Tesla cut the memory specifications on its next-generation Optimus robot chips to scale production, after Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said humanoid robots could require hundreds of gigabytes of memory and storage each. In a post on X, Musk said Tesla cut the AI5 chip's memory in half to 72GB and the AI6 chip's memory by a third to 144GB, calling it the only way to get enough volume for Optimus production and saying it greatly reduces cost. He added that the cuts should have a negligible effect on Optimus performance, as memory bandwidth is a bigger limiting factor than total memory capacity. On Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Mehrotra said humanoid robots are expected to need more than 200 gigabytes of memory and multiple terabytes of storage per unit, similar to autonomous vehicles, and that physical AI could become a significant driver of memory and storage demand by the end of the decade. Tesla has reportedly placed its first large-scale component order for roughly 5,000 Optimus units and is auditing Chinese suppliers ahead of production, with the company aiming to eventually build 1 million Optimus units a year.
TSLA · Supply · Neutral Tesla halved Optimus AI5/AI6 chip memory to 72GB/144GB to scale production and cut cost, a supply/capacity-driven spec change with mixed implications.

Honda and Taisei Develop Wireless Charging Technology for EVs in Motion

Honda and Taisei announced on the 5th that they have developed the foundational technology for a magnetic-field-coupling wireless power supply road system that delivers power contactlessly to electric vehicles while they are driving. Three companies took part in the development: Honda R&D, Honda's research and development subsidiary, and Taisei together with its subsidiary Taisei Rotec, which handles road and paving work. The system supplies power from transmission equipment buried in the road to receiving devices on the vehicle side, and is designed to handle up to the typical maximum speed of expressways. With an eye toward large commercial vehicles, the companies aim first for practical application in the logistics and transport sectors, where adoption benefits are expected, and plan to conduct demonstration tests on expressways from fiscal 2027 onward. Honda began work on the technology in 2021, and the three-company joint research started in 2025. Renault to invest over €10 billion in France over five years, CEO says

Renault Group will invest more than €10 billion, or $11 billion, in France over the next five years, CEO François Provost said on Saturday, with the automaker focusing on electric vehicles and more affordable cars. Speaking in an interview on France Inter radio, Provost said Renault had invested €13 billion in France over the last five years to transform its industrial footprint around electric vehicles, and that the coming five years would bring more than €10 billion of re-investment if the social and political context allows it. He said Renault's French plants now produce more vehicles than before, with 500,000 cars built in France in 2025, and that output will rise at least 25% in 2026 thanks to the rise of electric vehicles. Electric cars reached a record 42% of new car registrations in France in September, with demand boosted by the spike in fuel prices since the start of the Iran war.

NIO Q3 Deliveries Hit 109,178 as Growth Slows to 25.4%

NIO Inc. reported third quarter 2026 deliveries of 109,178 vehicles, landing inside its September 1 guidance range of 108,000 to 111,000 vehicles, alongside guided revenue of RMB 33,285 million to RMB 34,051 million. September deliveries came in at 37,408 vehicles, bringing 2026 year-to-date deliveries to 300,301 and cumulative deliveries to about 1.30 billion as of September 30, 2026. Deliveries grew year over year across NIO, ONVO and FIREFLY, but the third quarter growth rate slowed to 25.4% from faster rates earlier in 2026, pointing to moderating operational momentum. The company's narrative projects CN¥174.7 billion in revenue and CN¥4.0 billion in earnings by 2029, with a fair value estimate of $6.38, while more optimistic analysts had assumed roughly 37.7% annual revenue growth and about CN¥11.7 billion in earnings. The moderated pace puts near-term pressure on the key catalyst of margin improvement and progress toward breakeven, and sharpens the risk that intense Chinese EV competition could keep pricing and profitability under strain.

Tesla Q3 Deliveries Beat Estimates by 5.3% as Energy Storage Misses

Tesla's third-quarter deliveries beat company-compiled analyst expectations by 5.3%, though they declined 2.1% from a year earlier, a drop partly cushioned by Q3 2025's tax credit boost. Seeking Alpha analyst Oliver Rodzianko said the biggest takeaway is that traditional EV demand remains resilient as Tesla pivots toward autonomous taxi services and humanoid robotics as its dominant operating models, while energy storage deployment numbers missed expectations. Rodzianko noted that Chinese rival BYD saw its battery-electric passenger-car sales rise 30.9% year-over-year in the third quarter, underscoring fierce competition in China. Analyst Alexander Grover argued the delivery number is a distraction, since Tesla's valuation assumes unsupervised self-driving at scale, and flagged that Alphabet's Waymo is running more than 500,000 paid driverless rides a week across 15 U.S. metros with LiDAR in its stack, while Tesla still does not disclose how many of its robotaxis run without a safety monitor.

AH expects 2026 revenue to improve on 2025, boosted by EV and overseas markets

Yeap Su Chuan, Chief Executive Officer of Aapico Hitech Public Company Limited, or AH, told the Hoons Vision news team that the group's factories were unaffected by the flooding situation and continue to run their production lines as normal. He noted that flooding in several areas may create additional demand for replacement parts from damaged vehicles, which represents an opportunity for the auto parts business. Although Thai vehicle production capacity has yet to return to the level of 2 to 4 million units per year, the company sees the growth of electric vehicles, or EVs, together with the government's push to increase the proportion of local production, or localization, as factors opening new opportunities for domestic parts makers. On overseas markets, exports remain at normal levels, with AH having a base of major customers spread across the United States, China and Malaysia, and producing and delivering parts for the Proton brand, which helps support its overseas revenue base. As for the operating outlook for 2026, Yeap expects revenue to improve slightly from the previous year. Although the overall economy and global situation remain uncertain, the company has a strong order backlog and therefore remains confident in its medium- to long-term growth.

Garrett Motion Beats on Revenue and Guidance, Shares Still Seen 27% Undervalued

Garrett Motion reported quarterly revenue of US$976 million, up 6.9% year on year, with EBITDA results and full-year guidance that topped analyst expectations. The stock rose 3.1% over the last day and 5.3% over the past week, though its 90-day share price return is down 18.4% after a softer 30-day stretch, while the 1-year total shareholder return stands at 103.8% and the 3-year total shareholder return at about 2.8x. The most followed narrative pegs fair value around $37.17, comfortably above the last close at $27.07, implying the shares are 27% undervalued. That narrative rests on ongoing innovation and proof of concept awards in zero emission technologies including E Powertrain, E Cooling, and fuel cell compressors, plus expansion in industrial and non automotive end markets. It also flags risks from Garrett Motion's reliance on internal combustion engine turbochargers and exposure to tariff and currency swings.

Fourth round of tire industry price hikes this year takes effect, with all-category products raised by 2% to 5%

Entering October, the fourth round of concentrated price hikes in China's tire industry this year has officially entered its implementation period. Leading tire companies including General Science Technology, Zhongce Rubber, Sailun Tire, and Linglong Tire have raised prices by 2% to 5% across all product categories such as all-steel tires, semi-steel tires, and off-the-road tires. This is already the fourth round of concentrated price-increase notices issued by the tire industry since March this year. In its price adjustment notice, General Science Technology pointed to raw materials as the reason for the increase, saying that prices of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and carbon black have continued to rise sharply, causing tire manufacturing costs to climb rapidly. Raw materials account for more than 70% of tire production costs, with natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and carbon black together accounting for more than 60%. The simultaneous rise of these three major raw materials is the fundamental driver of this round of price increases. On carbon black, data from SunSirs shows that on October 1, the benchmark price of carbon black was reported at 11,692.86 yuan per ton, up about 59.74% year on year. On natural rubber, as of the end of the third quarter, the main Shanghai rubber futures contract closed above the 20,000 yuan per ton mark, while the average spot price in the domestic market over the same period was about 19,400 yuan per ton, up 31% year on year. On synthetic rubber, according to SunSirs data from October 1, the benchmark price of butadiene rubber was reported at 16,220 yuan per ton, up 39% year on year, and the benchmark price of styrene-butadiene rubber was reported at 16,175 yuan per ton, up about 36% year on year. According to data from Longzhong Information, as of September 29, the raw material cost index for semi-steel tires and the raw material cost index for all-steel tires both rose about 25% year on year. Zhongtai Securities believes that after cost disturbances ease, leading tire companies are expected to return to high year-on-year growth, but industry divergence will further intensify.

Porsche Bets on Gas Engines as EV Sales and China Deliveries Slump

Porsche is betting that a return to gas-powered vehicles will drive its turnaround, but the pivot may not be enough to fill a costly near-term gap. CEO Michael Leiters, in place since January, plans to bring back a combustion-engine Macan to sell alongside the electric version, though not until 2028, after the outgoing gas Macan's production was slated to end in July. Electric Macan sales dropped 40% in the first half of 2026 and Taycan EV deliveries fell 25%, while the 911 was the only model line to grow, up 19%. HSBC estimates the timing gap will cost Porsche around 25,000 units and roughly €500 million ($563 million) in profit in 2027, and forecasts operating profit will fall 8% that year. China deliveries sank 32% in the first half to around 14,500 units, extending a four-year decline, and first-half revenue fell 5% to 17.23 billion euros ($19.4 billion) even as operating profit rose 34% to 1.35 billion euros ($1.5 billion). On Sept. 18, Volkswagen said it would take a non-cash impairment of around 6 billion euros ($6.8 billion) on goodwill tied to Porsche, and investors will hear more on Oct. 7 at Porsche's capital markets day.

Tesla Q3 Deliveries Hit 486,532 Vehicles, Beating Expectations and Sending Shares Up 4.65%

Tesla reported global vehicle deliveries of 486,532 units in the third quarter, down from 497,099 units in the same period a year earlier but still above the average analyst estimate of 463,761 units, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Tesla shares closed Friday, October 2, up 4.65% after the company said in a statement the same day that the delivery figures reflected the strength of its core business amid a challenging electric vehicle market. The better-than-expected deliveries are a positive for Tesla after the company faced declining vehicle sales in recent periods, while its share price has remained weak. The company faces intense competition in China, a key market, as well as sluggish demand in the United States. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, is steering the company toward future businesses including artificial intelligence, driverless cars and humanoid robots. Last year's third-quarter deliveries set a record of 497,099 units as customers rushed to buy vehicles before the U.S. federal electric vehicle incentives expired, causing this year's third-quarter deliveries to fall year on year. Still, Wall Street expects Tesla to post a slight increase in sales this year after two consecutive years of declines.

Tesla's July-September global sales fall 2.1% as US EV headwinds bite

Tesla, the major US electric vehicle maker, announced on the 2nd that its global sales for the July-September 2026 quarter came to 486,532 vehicles, down 2.1% from the same period a year earlier. Since the Trump administration ended EV subsidies last September, US demand for EVs has slumped, and the figures were also weighed down by the pullback from the rush of buyers who scrambled to purchase before the subsidies expired a year earlier. Tesla does not disclose a regional breakdown, but a US research firm estimated in September that its US sales for the July-September quarter would come to roughly 124,000 vehicles, down about 30% from a year earlier. According to US media, sales are recovering in Europe and elsewhere, helped by soaring fuel prices, after the region faced a boycott campaign the previous year, but competition with Chinese rivals is intensifying.
TSLA · Demand · Negative Tesla's global Q3 sales fell 2.1% as US EV demand slumped after the end of EV subsidies.

Tesla Q3 Global Sales Top Estimates at 486,532 Vehicles

Tesla reported third-quarter global vehicle sales of 486,532, a figure that beat most leading estimates even though it came in two percent below the year-ago period. The electric car maker's shares jumped 5.0 percent near midday Friday on the news. Analysts at JPMorgan Chase had projected sales of 482,000, citing data from Europe in July and August showing increased sales from the year-ago level, while they projected lower sales in China and the United States. A larger drop had been expected given a surge in US electric vehicle sales in the same quarter last year ahead of the expiration of a tax credit at the end of September 2025, which was eliminated under legislation backed by US President Donald Trump. Tesla's figures were global and did not break out US sales, though the company noted that surging gasoline prices due to the US-Iran war have boosted interest in EVs. Among other automakers, Ford said its third-quarter sales fell 6.6 percent to 509,764 vehicles, while Stellantis came in at 324,277, nearly identical with the year-ago level; Ford's stock declined 2.2 percent and Stellantis slumped 6.6 percent.

Tesla's Q3 global deliveries hit 486,532, beating market expectations

Tesla, the major US electric vehicle maker, announced on the 2nd that its global deliveries for the third quarter, covering July through September, came to 486,532 units, beating market expectations. Recovering demand in Europe offset the impact of the expiration of tax incentives in the United States and intensifying competition in China. The average analyst forecast compiled by Visible Alpha was 456,896 units. Analysts raised their 2026 delivery estimate to 1.82 million units, up from the consensus forecast of 1.65 million as of June. However, to avoid a third consecutive year of year-on-year declines in deliveries, the company needs to deliver at least 311,448 units in the fourth quarter. New vehicle registrations in the European Union rose by about two-thirds through August, and in France the Model Y was the best-selling vehicle across all models. Vehicle production in the third quarter was 464,391 units, below the forecast of 486,761 units.
TSLA · Demand · Positive Q3 global deliveries of 486,532 beat the 456,896 analyst forecast, with recovering European demand offsetting US tax-incentive expiry and China competition.

September Payrolls Rise Just 29,000, Far Below 90,000 Forecast

The U.S. economy added only 29,000 non-farm payrolls in September, far below the 90,000 economists had expected, while the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2% and average hourly earnings rose just 0.11%. Prior months were revised sharply lower, with July cut by 31,000 to minus 10,000 and August reduced by 29,000 to 133,000, a combined downward revision of almost 60,000 jobs. Allianz chief economic adviser Mohamed El-Erian said the report was weak across the board on labor demand, though he called a rise in the labor force participation rate to 61.8% encouraging on the supply side, and said the data will keep the Federal Reserve on hold in October. Within the report, goods-producing and private service-providing sectors showed strength, with construction adding 11,000 jobs and healthcare 17,000, while government shed 17,000 positions and manufacturing added 9,000, a slowdown from 15,000 the prior month. Separately, Nike posted a disappointing outlook for fiscal 2027, expecting a high single-digit revenue decline this year, worse than the 2.5% the Street expected, and said restructuring would save about $2.5 billion, while Tesla reported roughly 486,500 third-quarter deliveries, topping estimates of 463,000.
NKE · Demand · Negative Nike guided to a high single-digit fiscal 2027 revenue decline, far worse than the 2.5% Street expected.

Tesla Beats Q3 Delivery Estimates With 486,532 Vehicles

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, topping Wall Street estimates of 463,000 even as the figure came in slightly below last year's 497,000. The company said it produced 464,000 vehicles in the quarter and deployed 13.7 gigawatts of energy storage products. The year-ago quarter was inflated by a rush of buyers ahead of the expiration of the federal tax credit, making the roughly 10,000-vehicle gap notable for demand strength. Tesla said it will release its third-quarter earnings on October 21 after the bell. The delivery figure is a global number, with improving demand in Europe and China serving as a major export hub.

Ford Q3 U.S. Sales Fall 6.6% as F-150 Supplier Issue Stays Within Guidance

Ford Motor reported a 6.6% decline in third-quarter U.S. vehicle sales, while saying a short-term supplier issue that affected F-150 production at the end of September should have a financial impact contained within its $10 billion to $11 billion 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance. Ford said the supplier issue was unrelated to aluminum and that its expected financial impact remains within the full-year guidance range the automaker provided on July 28. Ford sold 509,764 vehicles in the third quarter, down from a year earlier, though excluding the planned phase-out of the Escape and Corsair its vehicle volume was essentially flat against an estimated 1% decline for the overall industry. The company estimated its U.S. retail market share rose about 0.4 percentage point to 12.1%. F-Series sales rose 2.4% in September to 67,448 vehicles, bringing year-to-date sales to 561,508, more than 140,000 ahead of Chevrolet Silverado, while F-Series production increased 4.5% in the third quarter to 266,777 trucks and Super Duty production rose 4.4% to 110,275 vehicles, its strongest quarterly result in 19 years. Maverick Hybrid sales jumped 59.6% to a quarterly record of 27,793, Bronco sales reached a record 38,020, Explorer sales rose 17.6% through September to 189,210, and active paid software subscriptions surpassed 1.7 million, up more than 40% from a year earlier.
F · Demand · Neutral Q3 U.S. sales fell 6.6% overall, but excluding the planned Escape/Corsair phase-out volume was essentially flat and retail share rose 0.4pt, with F-Series, Maverick Hybrid, Bronco and Explorer posting gains.
F · Supply · Neutral A short-term supplier issue hit F-150 production at end-September, though Ford says the financial impact stays within its full-year EBIT guidance.

Tesla Delivers Over 486,000 EVs in Third Quarter, Beating Estimates

Tesla delivered more than 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, beating Wall Street's consensus estimates and even the most optimistic view for the company. The company said Friday morning that it built 464,391 vehicles in the quarter, an increase of roughly 6,000 deliveries compared to the second quarter, though sales were still down from the same period last year, when Tesla delivered 497,000 vehicles. That quarter, Tesla's best ever, was helped by a rush of U.S. buyers looking to take advantage of an expiring federal tax credit. Before Friday's numbers were released, Tesla's U.S. sales were down nearly 20% year-over-year in the U.S. market, according to Cox Automotive, amid the absence of new consumer models and buyer backlash over Elon Musk's political activities. Tesla has looked to other markets to make up for lost U.S. sales, with sales rising again in Europe and continued strong sales out of its factory in China, and earlier this week the company announced it had secured up to $30 billion in new lines of credit to support projects including the Cybercab, the Tesla Semi, the second-generation Roadster, and the Optimus humanoid robot.

Rivian Sets Sales Record as R2 SUV Launch Drives 45% Delivery Jump

Rivian sold more electric vehicles than ever in the third quarter, delivering 19,248 vehicles and building 19,751, roughly 45% more than it delivered in the same period last year, with the launch of its new, more affordable R2 SUV driving much of the gain. The quarter was the first full sales period for the R2 after it launched in June, though Rivian did not break out how many of the deliveries were R2 SUVs. Rivian is betting it will sell between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 vehicles by the end of the year, which would make it one of the fastest-selling EVs in U.S. history, second only to Tesla's Model Y, and it plans cheaper models costing as low as around $45,000. If it hits those numbers, the company believes it can sell between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles this year, including its R1 lineup and its commercial electric van, which would be its best sales year ever after being stuck at around the 50,000-vehicles-sold mark. Rivian builds the R2 at its factory in Normal, Illinois, and is also building a new factory outside Atlanta, Georgia, where it expects to build as many as 300,000 vehicles per year in the near future, with the option to expand that capacity; the company will release its full third-quarter financial results on October 29.
RIVN · Demand · Positive Rivian set a sales record with 19,248 Q3 deliveries, up ~45% YoY, driven by the R2 SUV launch.

Tesla Q3 Deliveries Hit 486,532, Smashing 462K Consensus Estimate

Tesla reported 486,532 third-quarter deliveries, smashing the consensus estimate of 462,000 vehicles, while producing 464,391 vehicles during the quarter. Model 3 and Model Y deliveries accounted for 478,237 of the total, with other models contributing 8,295, and Tesla said 1% of the deliveries total was subject to operating lease accounting. The quarterly tally was the second highest on record, behind the 497,099 vehicles delivered in Q3 of 2025, and ahead of the 480,126 delivered in Q2 and 358,023 in Q1. Analysts generally expect healthy demand trends in the wake of the Middle East conflict, with a key development being the vote on EU-wide FSD approval, recently delayed to December from a prior meeting of the EU's Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles scheduled for October 6. Tesla's European sales are already improving, with registrations up 61.9% year over year in France during September, 38.4% higher in Sweden, and up 24.8% in Spain. Shares of Tesla rose 1.8% in premarket action after the report was released.

Rivian Delays Customer R2 LiDAR Autonomy Rollout to 2027

Rivian Automotive plans to equip its first R2 vehicles with LiDAR and its internally developed RAP1 autonomy computer for employees by the end of 2026, while customer deliveries are now expected to begin in 2027, according to Electrek. The timeline marks a shift from the company's earlier communications, as Rivian introduced the third-generation RAP1 chip last December, rated at 1,600 sparse INT8 TOPS, and said at the time the technology would arrive in late 2026. The R2 launched in June without the new hardware, though a production-ready-looking R2 equipped with LiDAR was later spotted near Rivian's Irvine headquarters. Rivian VP of Investor Relations Chip Newcom said production of the RAP1 system will initially focus on the R2, with employees receiving the technology first before the rollout expands to customers in 2027, leaving the late 2026 target technically intact but initially applying only to employees. Rivian SVP of Autonomy and AI James Philbin said the rollout is expected to begin toward year-end, initially reaching early-adopter customers with R1 Gen 2 vehicles and later Gen 2 hardware revisions, including fleets Rivian classifies as Phase II and Phase III, with the company aiming to extend the technology across its full Autonomy+ fleet later next year. Separately, Lucid Group and Bolt have entered a strategic partnership to develop and launch autonomous mobility services across Europe, jointly developing an autonomous driving system-ready vehicle platform designed to support SAE Level 4 autonomous mobility, while France has begun testing two vehicles to evaluate Tesla's Full Self-Driving system after the Netherlands' road authority RDW provisionally approved it for Dutch roads in April.

Kodiak AI Taps IKEA Supply as First Driverless Freight Customer

Kodiak AI plans to make IKEA Supply its first customer for driverless long-haul freight service by the end of this year. The planned launch would remove the safety observer from the cab on a 219-mile leg, primarily along Interstate 45 between Kodiak's Houston and Dallas-area facilities, a key segment of an existing 292-mile route from IKEA's Baytown distribution center to its Frisco store. The announcement builds on four years of supervised autonomous deliveries for IKEA, during which Kodiak says it has carried more than 1,300 loads and logged over 750K miles with a safety observer aboard. Kodiak began its long-haul launch program in August and said its trucks now complete runs between Lancaster, Texas, and Houston without the observer intervening, though the company must finish its highway safety case before removing the observer. Kodiak AI was founded in 2018 and developed the Kodiak Driver, an autonomous-driving system for trucks and other vehicles; the Mountain View, California-based company went public on September 25, 2025, when its shares began trading on Nasdaq following a SPAC transaction with Ares Acquisition Corporation II.
