ASOS PlcHackers claim Asos was breached and threaten to leak compromised customer data, sending shares down nearly 13%.
Asos customers have been sent a phone alert claiming the online retailer has been hacked and warning that their personal information has been compromised. The app push notification, titled "Asos hacked", read: "Dear ASOS DPO and IT, we have full compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it." The message, which directed recipients to a Telegram account, appeared to be addressed to the company's technical staff. Shares in Asos tumbled by nearly 13pc on Tuesday in the wake of the reports. Snowflake is a cloud computing company that provides data hosting and processing services, and an instance refers to a company's individual system, which may host customer data such as sizes, browsing and purchase history, home addresses and phone numbers. The extent of the data available is not clear, and Asos was contacted for comment. A raft of UK retailers have been targeted by cyber attackers over the past two years, including Marks & Spencer and Harrods.
