AstraZeneca PLCEuropean Commission approved AstraZeneca's Trixeo Aerosphere as a maintenance asthma therapy for patients 12 and older, expanding the drug's EU label.

AstraZeneca announced Wednesday that the European Commission approved its inhaler therapy Trixeo Aerosphere as a late-line maintenance option for asthma patients aged 12 years and older, expanding the drug's availability in the EU. The decision specifically covers patients whose symptoms remain insufficiently controlled despite prior therapy with a combination of a medium-dose inhaled corticosteroid and a long-acting beta2-agonist. Marketed as Breztri Aerosphere in the U.S., the triple-combination therapy is already available there for adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The latest approval follows a positive opinion in July from an expert panel of the EU drug regulator recommending the label expansion for asthma, a condition affecting nearly 43 million people in Europe.
