DogecoinDogeOS launched a public testnet bringing EVM-compatible smart contracts and ZK-rollup capability to the Dogecoin network, expanding DOGE's utility.

DogeOS, an application-layer platform for Dogecoin, launched a public testnet on Wednesday in the form of a zero-knowledge rollup designed to bring EVM-compatible smart contracts to the Dogecoin network, with DOGE serving as the primary token for paying transaction fees. The project supports a wide range of applications, including trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and gaming, processing and confirming transaction state on the Dogecoin network. Currently, DogeOS uses a trusted execution environment, or TEE, together with validators and a permissioned transaction sequencer, while a future Dogecoin Core upgrade proposal would allow Dogecoin miners to verify execution proofs directly. Jordan Jefferson, chief executive officer of DogeOS, told The Block that Dogecoin does not yet verify ZK proofs on its own, but that bridge state transitions require valid proofs together with signatures from a majority of the validator set and TEE signers. He said the team is focused on the public testnet to give developers time to build and test applications while the network is validated, and will share a mainnet timeline once the next development milestone is reached. DogeOS, which comes from the team behind the MyDoge wallet, announced a 6.9 million dollar funding round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Two months later, the DogeOS team submitted a Dogecoin Core upgrade proposal that would add ZK-proof verification directly into Dogecoin, though that upgrade has not yet been deployed. Timothy Stebbing, a director of the Dogecoin Foundation, said in a statement on Wednesday that his hope is that DogeOS becomes a springboard for a new wave of real-world engineering and a gateway for the next 100 startups to build on Dogecoin. Dogecoin was trading at around 0.094 dollars at the time of publication, down 60 percent over the past year.
