B&G Foods IncB&G Foods Canada's Green Giant and Le Sieur vegetable business will not be sold to Nortera after the Competition Bureau blocked the deal, leaving B&G's Canadian unit intact.

Nortera and B&G Foods have jointly decided not to proceed with Nortera's proposed acquisition of B&G Foods Canada's Green Giant and Le Sieur Canadian vegetable business, Interim Commissioner of Competition Jeanne Pratt said on October 6, 2026. The decision followed the Competition Bureau's request to the Competition Tribunal on August 19, 2026, to block the transaction. The Bureau's investigation concluded the acquisition was likely to lead to less competition in the form of higher prices and fewer choices in the wholesale supply of certain canned and frozen vegetables in Canada. Pratt said the Bureau was pleased that a merger its investigation found was likely to harm competition will not move forward, calling the outcome a demonstration of the importance of enforcement in protecting competition in Canada's food sector. Nortera processes, markets and sells canned and frozen vegetables in Canada under the Del Monte and Arctic Gardens brands, while B&G Foods Canada markets and sells vegetables there under the Green Giant and Le Sieur brands.
