Recursion Pharmaceuticals saw its stock rise roughly 19% over the past month after Cathie Wood's ARK Investment bought 260,000 shares on June 24. The clinical-stage biotechnology company, which builds an AI-native drug discovery platform, highlighted progress in its fiscal first-quarter 2026 earnings, including early safety data for cancer drug REC-1245 and strong Phase 2 results for REC-4881 that prompted FDA talks toward approval. Revenue fell to $6.5 million from $14.7 million a year ago due to a completed Roche partnership phase, but net loss narrowed to $117.5 million from $202.5 million. Analysts expect more than 76% upside from current levels.
US government and Google join Meta CEO's Biohub, to invest $1.8 billion in biological AI
The US government, Meta Platforms, and Google parent Alphabet are joining the nonprofit research organization Biohub to build open datasets for training artificial intelligence models for biological research. Biohub announced the move on the 7th, and total investment in the effort is expected to reach $1.8 billion. Meta, Google's DeepMind, and drug-discovery startup Isomorphic Labs will jointly invest $300 million in Biohub. The US Department of Energy will contribute more than $500 million over the next five years for laboratory measurement, modeling, and computation, while the National Institutes of Health will provide more than $500 million in federal funding to coordinate datasets and repositories built to date, which Biohub will standardize for AI training. Biohub is run as a philanthropic effort by Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.
Rivercell Launches With $25 Million Seed Round to Build AI World Model of the Cell
Paris-based biotechnology and AI company Rivercell has launched with a $25 million seed round led by HV to build data platforms and AI models that predict how human cells respond to treatment. HCVC, Alven and Bpifrance Digital Venture also participated in the round, which will fund the scale-up of Rivercell's proprietary data generation platform, the expansion of its wet lab in Paris, and the launch of its AI Virtual Cell program. The company was started in summer 2025 by CEO Yann Fleureau, the engineer-turned-entrepreneur behind AI company Cardiologs, and was joined in 2026 by co-founder and Chief Science Officer Eric Durand, an AI scientist and former C-Level executive at AI drug discovery unicorn Owkin. Rivercell's indication-agnostic world model is designed to predict how human cells respond to a drug or genetic change in silico, reducing the need for physical wet-lab experiments, with the company describing its purpose-built platform as the GPU for the bio data center of the future. Dr. Charlotte Bunne of EPFL and Prof. Fabian Theis of Helmholtz Munich have joined Rivercell's Scientific Advisory Board, and the company is also backed by angel investors including founders and executives from Twist Bioscience, DNA Script, Agilent and Abivax/Ipsen.
Carterra and AstraZeneca Partner on Lab-in-the-Loop Drug Discovery
Carterra announced a research collaboration with AstraZeneca to develop hardware and software aimed at advancing lab-in-the-loop drug discovery. The effort brings together scientific and technical expertise to connect laboratory systems, software and data infrastructure with AI-driven discovery workflows. Lab-in-the-loop is the model in which AI systems propose drug candidates, wet-lab experiments generate data to test those predictions, and the resulting data feeds back to refine the next round of AI-guided design. Carterra's engineering and software teams are working with AstraZeneca's scientists and automation experts to create laboratory systems capable of generating standardized data at scale, with software designed to make that data directly usable in AI and machine learning workflows. Josh Eckman, CEO of Carterra, said AstraZeneca brings deep experience running biologics discovery at scale, and that its willingness to commit real scientific and automation resources reflects how urgently the field is moving toward a truly connected, AI-enabled discovery loop.

Therna Biosciences Names Kevin Green COO, Adds Two AI Advisors, Wins NIH TRDNT Challenge Phase I
Therna Biosciences appointed Kevin Green, former Chief Business Officer of Inceptive, as Chief Operating Officer and added two AI technical leaders to its advisory team, while the NIH Common Fund selected the company as a Phase I winner of its Targeting RNA in Disease with Novel Technologies Challenge. Green, who joined Therna in August and brings more than 20 years of experience across AI-enabled drug discovery and RNA therapeutics, leads the company's operations and business development as its RNA-Logix platform moves into partnered and internal programs. The new AI advisors are Dr. Dave Burke, the first Chief Technology Officer of Arc Institute and previously Vice President of Engineering for Android at Google, and Mr. Harsh Mehta, co-founder and CTO of Mirendil and previously a Senior Research Scientist at Anthropic and a researcher at Google. Therna is one of 25 Phase I winners of the three-phase TRDNT Challenge, which offers up to $13.1 million in total awards as teams develop and validate their technologies through 2027. Therna's winning proposal introduces a co-scientist agent built on RNA-Logix that designs and optimizes sequence-specific activating antisense oligonucleotides for ultra-rare haploinsufficiencies.
insitro and Lilly Open Small Molecule PK Prediction Models to Biotech via Lilly TuneLab
insitro announced that the advanced machine learning models it built with Eli Lilly and Company to predict in vitro and in vivo properties of small molecules are now available to certain biotech companies through Lilly TuneLab. The models were trained on multi-species preclinical data that Lilly generated over decades of research from hundreds of thousands of unique molecules, offering an alternative to the industry standard method of extrapolation from in vitro assays. The collaboration, announced in September 2025, paired insitro's computational and AI/ML expertise with Lilly's proprietary preclinical dataset of in vitro and in vivo measurements across compounds with established ADMET properties. The in vivo PK models are a critical component of insitro's TherML platform for small molecule discovery, alongside machine learning and physics-based in silico screening, affinity models powered by proprietary adaptive DNA-encoded libraries generating data up to 1B compound scale, and an active-learning medicinal chemistry design engine. Lilly TuneLab is part of Lilly Catalyze360, alongside Lilly Ventures, Lilly Gateway Labs, and Lilly ExploR&D, and is built on a federated learning infrastructure hosted by a third-party provider.

Profluent and BioMarin Partner to Design Novel Enzyme Therapies Using AI
Profluent announced a collaboration with BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. to design and optimize novel enzyme therapies for BioMarin's pipeline. Under the agreement, Profluent will apply its foundational AI models to generate novel potential drug candidates, and BioMarin will screen the results with the goal of eventually advancing the most promising designs. Profluent will design and optimize enzyme candidates using its suite of proprietary protein language models, which draw on the Profluent Protein Atlas, described as the largest protein sequence dataset in the world with more than 115 billion unique sequences. BioMarin will use Profluent's AI models to rapidly explore protein designs and identify candidates with desired activity and stability profiles, then advance the most promising into preclinical testing. Pooja Agarwal, Vice President and Head of Metabolic Conditions Research at BioMarin, said the collaboration pairs Profluent's de novo protein design approach with BioMarin's decades of enzyme therapy expertise, while Profluent CEO Ali Madani said the partnership aims to accelerate BioMarin's drug discovery pipeline.
