Finance Ministry says chip and shipbuilding companies selling dollars, structural FX supply-demand improvement, won strengthens.
South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance said on the 14th that major semiconductor and shipbuilding companies have begun selling large amounts of dollars in the futures market, and indicated that conditions in the currency market are improving. In a statement, it noted that against the backdrop of solid fundamentals such as a record trade surplus, structural changes in supply and demand are expected in the foreign exchange market in the second half of the year. The won rose as much as 0.75 percent on the 14th to 1,486.30 per dollar, its strongest since May 12.
