Summary · why it matters

Supachī Suthamphan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, visited the Toyota headquarters in Samrong, Samut Prakan province, to monitor the impact of flooding on the automotive industry. She found that Toyota's three factories were not directly affected by the floods, but production was affected because some suppliers in the production chain could not deliver parts to the manufacturing process as normal. She therefore instructed the Ministry of Industry to monitor the entire system, from factories, transport, warehouses, and distribution to domestic and overseas markets, in order to identify bottlenecks and coordinate rapid solutions. Relevant agencies will visit Amata Industrial Estate to investigate the problems of suppliers unable to deliver parts, and will extend monitoring to the food industry and other related industries. For long-term guidelines, proposals from operators will be considered at the policy level, including a proposal to exempt import taxes on machinery, equipment, and spare parts needed to repair flood-affected factories, and additional tax deductions for expenses on repairing and restoring machinery and factories. These proposals are still under consideration and are not yet measures in effect.
