Thailand has proposed the idea of setting up an early warning mechanism with China to monitor rapidly rising imports and signals that could lead to dumping problems, at the 8th China-Thailand Trade Remedy Cooperation Meeting on September 22, 2026. Chaninthorn Rimcharoen, deputy director-general of the Department of Foreign Trade, led a delegation to hold talks with the Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau, or TRB, of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, and was welcomed by PENG Tao, director-general of the TRB. The proposal came after Thailand imported goods from China worth about 2.21 trillion baht in the first two quarters of 2026, up 31.55% from the same period a year earlier, amid concerns among Thai businesses over rising imports through both normal trade channels and electronic commerce. The two sides also discussed technical and legal issues in investigation processes for applying trade remedy measures, the use of artificial intelligence in investigation procedures, and assistance for exporters when trading partners impose countermeasures. The Department of Foreign Trade stressed that the idea aims to ensure trade measures are applied appropriately, fairly and only as necessary, and invited the Chinese side to attend the 9th Thailand-China Trade Remedy Cooperation Meeting, which Thailand will host next year.
