China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that President Xi Jinping will make an official visit to the United States from September 23 to 25 at the invitation of President Donald Trump. Ahead of the summit between the two leaders, Chinese and US officials completed a second day of talks in New York on Monday, covering AI, investment, and trade. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, China's top trade negotiator Li Chenggang, and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng held discussions throughout the day on Sunday. Both sides agreed to establish a US-China AI Dialogue mechanism to build shared understanding of the benefits and threats of the technology. The key question in focus is whether China and the United States can agree to extend the trade truce agreement, which is set to expire in November. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said an extension of three to six months is possible.
