Taiwan Data Center Market Projected to Reach US$5.72 Billion by 2031

Taiwan's data center market is projected to grow from USD 1.97 billion in 2025 to USD 5.72 billion by 2031, a compound annual growth rate of 19.44%, according to a new ResearchAndMarkets.com report. Taipei remains the island's leading data center destination, supported by hyperscale developments and cloud regions, while submarine cable investment is strengthening Taiwan's position as a major digital infrastructure hub in Asia. In October 2025, Meta announced an investment in Candle, a submarine cable project connecting Taiwan with Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore; the approximately 4,971-mile cable is expected to deliver transmission capacity of up to 570 terabits per second and become operational in 2028. Taiwan's government plans to provide approximately USD 28.7 billion in funding by 2030 in support of its 2050 Net-Zero Transition, covering renewable energy, hydrogen, grid modernization, energy storage and related programs. In June 2025, Amazon Web Services launched its first Taiwan cloud region in Taipei with three availability zones and announced plans to invest approximately USD 5 billion in the country's data center infrastructure, while in November 2025 Foxconn announced the development of an AI data center using NVIDIA's GB300 NVL72 platform, expected to become operational in the first half of 2026. The report covers 25 existing data center facilities and six upcoming facilities across more than five cities, and names established colocation operators including Chief Telecom, Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone Telecommunications, NTT Communications, Taiwan Mobile and Vantage Data Centers, with potential new entrants including Apple, Microsoft, Keppel Data Centres and SC Zeus Data Centers.

Supermicro Stock Plunges 46% in a Month Amid Taiwan Raids and Export Probe

Supermicro shares have fallen 46% over the past month as the company faces a widening scandal over alleged smuggling of Nvidia GPUs to China. Taiwanese authorities raided Supermicro’s offices, the residences of six individuals, and three affiliated companies in the Keelung district, including data-center operator Chief Telecom and distributor Albatron Technology. The raids are part of an investigation linked to U.S. charges that co-founder Wally Liaw, sales manager Steven Chang, and contractor Willy Sun attempted to divert $2.5 billion in Nvidia-powered AI servers to China in violation of export controls. Supermicro has denied wrongdoing and is cooperating with authorities, but the controversy adds to a history of regulatory troubles, including a 2018 Nasdaq delisting and a 2020 accounting-violations fine. The company is also pursuing $7 billion in funding to address a $39 billion order backlog, including a $5 billion underwritten stock sale and a $2 billion at-the-market offering, which will dilute existing shareholders.

Taiwan prosecutors detain Super Micro employees over chip exports

Taiwanese prosecutors detained two Super Micro Computer employees on Wednesday following a raid of the company's local offices earlier this week over alleged shipments of Nvidia chips to China. The Keelung District Court approved the detention of two employees, while two others were released on bail but restricted from leaving Taiwan. A manager at Super Micro distributor Albatron Technology was also detained, and an employee of data center operator Chief Telecom was questioned. The raids on Monday targeted the residences of six individuals and the offices of Super Micro, Albatron, and Chief Telecom as part of an ongoing China chip smuggling probe. Super Micro said it continues to cooperate with law enforcement and government officials in Taiwan and other jurisdictions. The detentions add to three others in May connected to the investigation, with those suspects accused of sending at least one batch of Nvidia chips to China and attempting to export around 50 servers that were seized before leaving the island. Taiwan does not currently treat AI chip exports to China as a crime.

Super Micro Stock Plunges After Taiwan Raids Offices in Nvidia Chip Probe

Super Micro Computer shares fell more than 8% on Monday after Taiwanese authorities searched the company's offices as part of an investigation into alleged shipments of restricted Nvidia artificial intelligence chips to China. The investigation also included searches at the homes of six individuals and three related companies in Taiwan's Keelung district, and Super Micro said it is cooperating with local authorities. The reported searches also involved data center operator Chief Telecom and distributor Albatron Technology. The inquiry centers on allegations that Super Micro servers were used to move advanced Nvidia graphics processors into China despite U.S. export restrictions, marking Taiwan's first publicly disclosed enforcement effort connected to the broader U.S. campaign to limit China's access to advanced AI hardware. The development follows charges filed in March against three people associated with Super Micro, including one co-founder, over allegations of helping move about $2.5 billion worth of U.S. artificial intelligence technology to China in violation of export control laws.

Super Micro Plunges 8% as Taiwan Raids Its Offices in NVIDIA AI Chip Smuggling Probe

Super Micro Computer shares fell 8% to $28.15 after Taiwan authorities raided the company's offices as part of an investigation into alleged smuggling of NVIDIA AI chips to China. The raid, which also targeted residences of six individuals and sites of three affiliated companies including Chief Telecom and Albatron Technology, marks a significant escalation in Taiwan's enforcement of chip export controls. Prosecutors allege that Super Micro-linked operators routed NVIDIA chips through Japan to China and seized roughly 50 servers before they left Taiwan. The company has said it is cooperating with authorities and that the search is part of an ongoing probe, not a finding of wrongdoing, but its board is already conducting an independent review of export-control-related transactions. The stock is now down 39% over the past month, with regulatory risk overshadowing a 123% year-over-year revenue increase to $10.24 billion and an $8.8 billion debt load ahead of its August 4 earnings report.
