Summary · why it matters

Brookfield closed its $2 billion Middle East fund in August, slightly above its $2 billion target set two years ago, and Managing Partner and Regional Head of Middle East Jad Ellawn says the firm is seeing multiple opportunities in the region. Ellawn told Bloomberg's Abeer Abu Omar on Horizons Middle East & Africa that Brookfield has $20 billion invested in the region and will continue to focus on financial services, industrials, healthcare, and consumer and business services. He pointed to data from portfolio companies, including Network International, one of the largest payment companies, where H1 2026 transaction volumes were higher than H1 2025, and GEMS Education, where registrations are up from June, as evidence that the regional population has grown rather than merely stayed in place. Ellawn said demand for real estate has not gone anywhere and that the trends Brookfield is seeing in the region are medium to long-term in nature, adding that higher yields and CDS spreads that have not widened much do not change the firm's appetite or ability to invest. He also said sovereign wealth funds including the PIF, Mubadala and ADIA have always invested heavily domestically and that what has changed is the prioritization of investments, which will be strategic in nature.
