Summary · why it matters

The Ministry of Finance, together with the Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation, or TCGC, has launched the Nano Plus loan guarantee programme with a total facility of 2 billion baht, beginning with a first phase of 500 million baht, to address the problems of small traders and SMEs that lack collateral and must rely on informal loans charging interest as high as 20% per day. The programme builds on an AI technology called Nok Krasib, which records sales and converts them into financial evidence, with TCGC stepping in to absorb credit cost risk and improve credit access for small traders and the self-employed. Guarantees start at 5,000 baht and go up to a maximum of 50,000 baht per borrower, with a guarantee period of up to 4 years, no fees throughout the 4 years, and TCGC covering NPLs of up to 5%. The programme is expected to help more than 100,000 SMEs obtain credit, averaging 20,000 baht each, preserve 146,000 jobs, and generate economic benefits from the guarantees of more than 9.86 billion baht.
