NVIDIA CorporationPresident Xi Jinping, China's leader, departed Beijing today for an official visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump, the US leader. Accompanying President Xi are his wife Peng Liyuan, Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China's Foreign Minister. President Xi's delegation is expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00 p.m. US time, which corresponds to Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 a.m. Thailand time. President Trump will personally travel to Joint Base Andrews to welcome President Xi, and will host an official dinner at the White House on Thursday, attended by US business leaders including Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jane Fraser, CEO of Citigroup, Sam Altman of OpenAI, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia. The official summit will begin on Thursday morning and conclude on Friday evening. Thursday will open with a formal state welcome ceremony, with 479 US military personnel from all branches taking part on the South Lawn and in the White House Rose Garden. Talks between President Trump and President Xi are expected to focus heavily on three topics, or the 3Ts: Trade, Taiwan, and Tech. Artificial intelligence will be at the heart of the technology discussions. President Trump is also likely to press China to release Gulshan Abbas, an American who has been held in a Chinese prison for eight years. China accuses Abbas of "participating in a terrorist organization" after her sister came forward to accuse China of genocide against the Uyghurs. Meanwhile, US House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican members have expressed confidence that President Trump can pressure China into releasing her.
