KGI says flood-hit stocks: BJC and CPALL stand out, HMPRO and TASCO benefit

KGI Securities (Thailand) said heavy rain covered Bangkok and its vicinity from September 25, causing flash floods in many areas, with the overall situation beginning to improve slowly from September 27, and it views the impact on the economy and the market as still limited. On the positive side, consumer staples groups such as BJC, CPALL and CPAXT are likely to benefit from stockpiling of fresh food, dry food and necessities. Meanwhile, home and building repair groups such as HMPRO, which has 50% of all its branches in the central region, and TASCO, as well as DOHOME and GLOBAL, are likely to benefit from the positive market conditions as well. However, KGI views this benefit as unlikely to be significant enough to raise its earnings forecasts for the stocks under coverage. On the negative side, the floods may affect customer numbers and goods transport flows for commercial property such as CPN, hotel groups and restaurants, with AWC having the highest concentration in Bangkok and therefore possibly facing the heaviest short-term impact. But if hotel stock prices pull back because of the floods, that would be a buying opportunity, since the main picture is still that revenue per available room is improving and the high travel season is approaching. As for restaurant stocks such as AU, M and MAGURO, they may be somewhat affected, with MAGURO temporarily closing all 6 of its branches, accounting for about 11% of the company's total 61 branches.
MAGURO.BK · Demand · Negative Floods may somewhat affect restaurant stocks, with MAGURO temporarily closing all 6 of its 61 branches (~11% of total).
AWC.BK · Demand · Negative AWC has the highest concentration in Bangkok and may face the heaviest short-term impact as floods affect customer numbers and goods transport flows for commercial property.

CPALL.BK · Demand · Positive CPALL is cited among consumer staples groups likely to benefit from stockpiling of fresh food, dry food and necessities during the floods.
CPAXT.BK · Demand · Positive CPAXT is cited among consumer staples groups likely to benefit from stockpiling of fresh food, dry food and necessities during the floods.

Kasikorn Securities Maintains Negative View on Restaurant Stocks, Favors M Over ZEN with 19.9 Baht Target

Kasikorn Securities maintains a negative view on Thailand's restaurant sector, stating that economic stimulus measures continue to pressure the five SET-listed restaurant operators: M, ZEN, AU, OKJ, and MAGURO. This follows the Cabinet's approval of the Thai Chai Thai Plus Phase 2 program with a budget of 42.7 billion baht, extending the 60:40 co-payment scheme for another two months, from October 1 to November 30, 2026. Under the scheme, the government covers 60% of eligible spending, capped at 200 baht per person per day and no more than 1,000 baht per person over the two-month period, compared with 1,000 baht per month in Phase 1. Participants must confirm their eligibility via the Paotang application between October 1 and 15, and state welfare cardholders with eligibility will receive an additional 700 baht in October. The research team noted that the seven previous co-payment rounds failed to improve same-store sales growth, or SSSG, for listed restaurants. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the average SSSG of the five operators fell 9.6% even as private consumption grew 3.3%, and declined 8.2% in the second quarter of 2026 while private consumption grew 1.9%. It expects SSSG to remain negative in the third quarter of 2026 based on recent discussions with management. On investment recommendations, the research team maintains a negative view on the sector but prefers M over ZEN due to its clearer strategy and more evident earnings recovery outlook. M trades at a 2026 PER of 19.1 times versus a three-year core EPS CAGR of 19.4% and offers a dividend yield of 5.2%, while ZEN trades at a PER of 27.0 times versus a three-year core EPS CAGR of 20.8% and offers a dividend yield of 1.9%. It maintains a hold rating on both stocks, with a target price of 19.9 baht for M and 5.6 baht for ZEN.

Yuanta maintains Buy on MAGURO with a 24.10 baht target, betting on a record profit in the second half

Yuanta Securities (Thailand) said Maguro Group Public Company Limited, or MAGURO, posted normalised profit of 40 million baht in the second quarter of 2026, up 15.8% quarter-on-quarter and 24.9% year-on-year, putting first-half 2026 normalised profit at 44.3% of the full-year profit forecast. Second-quarter 2026 revenue came in at 578 million baht, up 3.0% quarter-on-quarter and 29.1% higher year-on-year. Although same-store sales fell 5.5% year-on-year on weak domestic purchasing power, revenue still grew thanks to 13 more branches than a year earlier, with five new branches opened in the quarter: one new IPPE KOPPE outlet at Central World, one Kiwamiya, two Hitori Shabu and one BINCHO. The gross margin stood at 48.3%, above the expected 46.4%, helped by higher capacity utilisation and reduced promotional activity. The company also declared an interim dividend for first-half 2026 results of 0.29 baht per share, a dividend yield of 1.6%, with the ex-dividend date on 28 August 2026 and payment on 11 September 2026. The research team expects normalised profit to return to a new high in the third quarter of 2026, driven by the accelerated opening of more than eight new branches. These include one outlet of the new flagship brand Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera at Central World, which has been open since late July 2026 and has been received quite well, with spending per head estimated at about 1,500 baht and expected to generate roughly 10 million baht in revenue per month under a conservative forecast, plus two more Kiwamiya branches and five other branches spanning the MAGURO, BINCHO and Hitori Shabu brands. It maintained its 2026 normalised profit forecast at 167 million baht, up 7.6% year-on-year, and kept its fair value at 24.10 baht. The stock currently trades at a 2026 price-to-earnings ratio of 13.9 times, below peers such as M and AU, which trade at 18 to 20 times, while the shares offer 31.0% upside, so the Buy recommendation is maintained.

ASPS Recommends Energy Hedge Strategy and Safe-Haven Stocks Amid Geopolitical Tensions

Asia Plus Securities, or ASPS, recommends investment strategies for volatile markets, focusing on Energy Hedge plays that benefit from oil prices and geopolitical risks, including PTTEP, BCP, TOP, and IVL, alongside safe-haven stocks. It highlights PTTEP, BCP, and MAGURO as top picks for Thai stocks, while for international exposure it favors BABA80 and SPENGY80. Additionally, it suggests SIRI, GULF, and GFPT as other interesting stocks. ASPS sees an opportunity to rotate investments from AI infrastructure plays to downstream users such as Apple, Meta, Alphabet, Xiaomi, and Alibaba. It also flags the AMD Advancing AI 2026 event on July 23 and the IPO of CXMT on July 27, which could drain liquidity and pressure memory chip prices. On the domestic positive side, the government has attracted over 70 billion baht in foreign direct investment from four major Chinese companies. In the EV sector, Xiaomi is setting up an R&D center and Changan is expanding production capacity to 200,000 units per year by 2030. In AI and data centers, Innolight and Eoptolink are preparing to expand factories in Thailand.
